Many environmental or engineering studies involve both surface geophysics and borings. Surface geophysics may be used to site borings or wells, or borings might be done to confirm surface geophysical results.  Borehole geophysics represents a perfect complement to these investigations by positively linking visual observations of boring samples to the geophysical data, providing in-situ measurements of physical properties, or simply providing missing data for boring segments with no recovery.
